Jury to enter third day of deliberations in Alarcons’ voter fraud, perjury trial

There’s still no verdict in the perjury and voter fraud trial of former Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcón and his wife, Flora Montes de Oca Alarcón.

The 12-member jury left downtown Los Angeles’ criminal courthouse Friday afternoon for the weekend. The group will reconvene Monday morning, said a Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman.

Prosecutors allege the Alarcóns lived outside District 7 and lied about their address on official documents. The couple maintains they are innocent, and say they intended to move to the Panorama City home after completing renovations.

The jury, made up of seven women and five men, is considering a total of 21 charges against the couple. The jury received the case on Thursday.

If convicted, Richard Alarcón faces up to five years in state prison, and Flora Alarcón faces four years.
